Clubbing in Cubao: Today x Future

Today x Future, down the street from revitalized shoe arcade Cubao X, is sometimes a dance club, sometimes a place to watch musicians play, sometimes a flea market for vinyl, and always a good time. Unlike the already open secret that is Cubao X, Future is a little harder to find, and for drinkers used to the open spaces of Fred’s and Escobar (Esco-Bar, get it?) at Cubao X, is a little scarier.

It’s tucked away along a sidestreet near Gateway Mall and shares a building with the equally cool-sounding Total Wound Care Solutions Corp.

Construction workers building a condominium across the street sleep along the sidewalk leading to Future sometimes, unmindful of the crowd that spills out of the bar past midnight.

Future has the standard beers by the bucket, but also shots. In the case of the Junkie, the shots come in syringes filled with tequila. It sounds a little gimmicky (like the Talk What Baboy, their take on the standard tokwa’t baboy) but it’s a good shot in the arm for after-office moods.

Future is particularly proud of its cocktails and we can vouch for their Rum Coke, the Beergarita (Beer, tequila, and your inhibitions out the door), and the Mango Mint Rumba, a current favorite.

Drinks go well with their Hungarian sausage, Spicy Tofu, and the Talk What Baboy while the Beer Bacon and Drunken Dory are also promising offerings on the menu.
Future has DJs almost every night, with corresponding cool, if cryptic, posters for the night. And that’s thing about Future. Each night is different and even with the posters as clues, you’re never really sure what you’ll get.

One night, you could be dancing (or making an attempt) to old school hip hop and another night, the DJ might bring out a KISS classic like “God Gave Rock N’ Roll To You” and deftly mix that with an old VST disco song. The crowd is slightly different each night, too. Sometimes, it’s dudes in dresses dancing to hits from the ’80s and sometimes it’s marijuana legalization advocates jamming about jamming.

One thing that doesn’t seem to change is how Future is always open (until 3am, the waiter says proudly) and will always have something new for you.
