The Quezon City government may order 39 dormitories and boarding houses in Barangay Krus na Ligas for failing to meet fire safety standards and building regulations.
According to QC Building Official Isagani Versoza, many of the boarding houses did not have building permits either.
One operator of a dormitory in Krus na Ligas meanwhile said QC building inspectors sometimes visit their area to collect bribes. Versoza said his office is ready to hear complaints about supposedly corrupt building inspectors.
It must be noted, though, that the existence of corrupt building officials does not mean pesky things like fire safety standards and building regulations can be ignored.
