Oink Oink: Thousands gather at Quirino Grandstand to protest pork barrel

Thousands from across the political spectrum braved the threat of rain to troop to the Quirino Grandstand Monday morning to call for the abolition of the Pork Barrel System.

Activist groups converged at Liwasang Bonifacio early Monday before heading to Luneta where the main programs were.

Among the groups in the march were mass organizations under Bagong Alyansang Makabayan and their political rival Akbayan. Freedom of Information advocates were also at the march as well as members of the Philippine Airlines Employees Association.

People without political affiliations, school groups, and religious groups meanwhile headed to Luneta directly where several stage were set up.

Although each groups had chants of their own, they were united in anger against the apparent misuse of Priority Development Assistance Funds by lawmakers and fake non-governmental organizations.

There was one chant that everyone in the crowd took up, though: Makibaka, Huwag Mag-baboy. And a continuous chorus of “oink, oink, oink.”
