UPDATE: Private group protests Southwest bus terminal

[UPDATE: 3 Oct]: The National Center for Commuter Safety and Protection, comprised of commuters protesting the Southwest Interim Transport Terminal, has asked the Office of the Ombudsman to look into the legality of MMDA building a P24M terminal in a land owned by a private company. The terminal, located at Coastal Mall in Parañaque City, is the last stop for buses from Laguna and Cavite provinces. These buses used to be able to travel up to Manila and Pasay City to drop off their Manila-bound passengers.

[Aug 27] Bus drivers at the Southwest Integrated Provincial Transport Teminal at Coastal Mall in Parañaque City staged a protest against the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s policy on provincial buses on Tuesday, leaving passengers headed to the province stranded. According to a Radio DZMM report, the bus drivers complain that the MMDA allows them only a few minutes to pick up passengers at the terminal, but it takes them hours to queue for their turn at the pick-up zone. MMDA sent trucks to help ferry commuters stranded because of the strike. The integrated bus terminal is meant to keep provincial buses out of Metro Manila. Similar terminals are being planned in Alabang and in Quezon City.
