Gov’t asked FB for your deets

Here we were worried about revealing too much personal information to Facebook’s advertisers. It turns out, even the Philippine goverment wants your deets. Facebook’s first Global Governments Request Report reveals that, during the first quarter of 2013, the Philippine goverment requested for information about four users in the country – and that could be you! “We hope this report will be useful to our users in the ongoing debate about the proper standards for government requests for user information in official investigations,” says Facebook general counsel Colin Stretch. “We scrutinise each request for legal sufficiency under our terms and the strict letter of the law, and require a detailed description of the legal and factual bases for each request.” The most number of requests for personal information about specific users was from the US government at 20,000 to 21,000.
