Philippine School of Business Administration Quezon City shuts down

UPDATE (Oct 18) On Thursday, Oct 17, Judge Catherine Manodon of Regional Trial Court Branch 104 issued a 20-day temporary restraining order (TRO) to stop the implementation of the notice of closure of the Philippine Business School of Adminstration in Quezon City (PSBA-QC).

“The notice of closure appeared in the school’s website on September 23. It was signed by stockholders Juan Lim as chairman and Ramon Peralta as president. It revealed that the school’s board of directors and stockholders, representating at least 98.99 percent of the outstanding capital stock of PSBA-QC, unanimously approved the closure of the school effective October 18, reports Janvic Mateo of The Philippine Star.

According to the report, the TRO was issued because of the petition filed last week by students Mary Plet Paguio, Charlene Zape, and Patrick Lloret saying that “the issuance of the notice of closure was in violation of their right to complete their degrees in school.”

Manodon agreed with them. In her four-page order, she pointed out that “the students would suffer irreparable injury if the closure of the school will not be restrained prior to the hearing of the request for a preliminary injunction.” She then ordered the petitioners to post a bond amounting to PHP200,000 “to answer whatever damages that will be suffered in connection with the issuance of the TRO” and set the hearing on the petition for a writ of preliminary injunction on Oct 24.

(Sept 27) It’s been known, jokingly, as the ‘School Beside Ateneo’ since 1981 and by Oct 18, Philippine School of Business Administration-QC will cease to operate from Katipunan Avenue. According to the circular posted on the PSBA’s website, apart from “serious business losses sustained for the past eight (8) years,” the school is “being operated by Atty. Benjamin P. Paulino without an independent permit from CHED, and without authority from PSBA Inc.-QC, who is the grantee of recognition of CHED.” The decision to close the campus was reached at the Sept 20 board meeting, which was attended by the board of directors and stockholders. According to the Philippine Star, starting Oct 28, all enrolled students will be transferred to its Sampaloc, Manila, campus.
