It’s a Saturday night, and you’ve got nothing to do. You’re ready to rock the weekend, but you’re also running out of ideas of what to do with friends. What to do?

OUR SECRET: Release your inner diva and go to an Open Mic Night at what’s arguably the best-kept secret of Quezon City: Taumbayan in Kamuning, Quezon City (see complete address and operating hours below).

THE REASON: This place is an artistic haven, and there’s a very good chance you’ll be hanging out with familiar faces from showbiz, theatre, and local music scene. Owned by thespian friends Joel Saracho, Jojit Lorenzo, and the husband-and-wife tandem of Ge and Ross Villamil, Taumbayan offers a relaxing venue for music and delicious food. Saturday nights are especially fun as that’s when they stage their weekly open mic night. where anyone with a penchant for public performance is welcomed onstage.

THE DIFFERENCE: Compared to other bars in South Triangle (Tomas Morato and Timog Avenues) next door, at Taumbayan there’s a good chance you’ll get to listen or belt alongside awesome and unguarded performances of a powerhouse of talents you usually see only on TV or onstage. Some of the regulars spotted: Bituin Escalante, Cookie Chua, Aiza Seguerra, Agot Isidro, Julia Clarete, Bayang Barrios, and even the enigmatic, Lolita Carbon. Sisig? Inihaw specials? Kare-kare or sinigang? Ice cold beer? Singing “Part of your World” with Bituin? Check, check, check, check and check.
