Secrets of the city: Pon de ring donuts at Mister Donut Café in Greenhills

Craving for something sweet? Which do you prefer: the delicious fad of designer donuts (cronuts perhaps?), or the chewy goodness of the Japanese classic that is mochi? Here’s an idea: Try both, in one unique pastry.

OUR SECRET: The classic, neighborhood donut shop, Mister Donut, located on the ground floor of Shoppesville Arcade, has apparently evolved into a quirky café, complete with colorful interiors and furniture design, and is now the only branch offering what they claim as Japan’s best-selling masterpiece: the Pon De Rings donut, which are unique because of its mochi-like consistency; springy to the touch, and very chewy, just like the cold Japanese dessert.

THE REASON: This Mister Donut Café is also open 24 hours, perfect for your late night sugar buzz. The chewy Pon de Rings are available in flavors like almonds, rocky road, sans rival, pistachio, and others like the classic glazed. It can be eaten like a regular donut (best with coffee), but you can also opt for a “dessert” Pon de Ring, and order it like your favorite crepe (with fillings like strawberries and cream or mangoes).

The branch also has a menu that’s not being offered in other Mister Donut branches like their all-day breakfast menu of beef tapa, chicken tocino, and gourmet tuyo flakes. Croissant connoisseurs also have an exclusive choice when it comes to variety like chunky chicken, ham and bacon, and Japanese crab and corn. Wash it all down with milkshakes (strawberry, blueberry, swiss choco): also exclusively sold at Mister Donut Café in Greenhills.
