Taguig City got PHP109.6 million from PDAF—but failed to use it

Sometimes failure can be a good thing.

“According to a Commission on Audit (COA) report released last week, the city government of Taguig had more than P109.6 million from the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) of different lawmakers for various projects last year but the money was never utilized,” reveals Michael Punongbayan in The Philippines Star.

The Supreme Court has issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) against the use of the PDAF, so Taguig may no longer be able to use the money. The COA explained that the city had actually received “a total of PHP123 million from the PDAF of senators and congressmen for various programs, projects, and activities (PPAs).” Obviously, only a portion of it (PHP13.4 million) was spent.

The clincher is this: “The unspent PDAF was initially discussed with the city administrator but he was not aware of the fund releases to the city.” How does that happen?
