Jograd dela Torre’s #YolandSong

Look what popped up in our mailbox, a musical tribute to super typhoon Yolanda survivors by entertainer Jograd dela Torre entitled #YolandaSong which he wrote and sang. Produced by YouTube video producers GRNMNGO, “it’s a real labor of love between ourselves and activist singer/comedian Jograd dela Torre, who shows his serious side in an impassioned manner that will surely resonate with…millions of Filipinos,” says Sarah Sasani of GRNMNGO.

Caveat: Though the song is about disaster-hit Tacloban, the video was filmed in just half a day outside of an abandoned burnt-down building on the outskirts of Makati, which was made to look like it was in the heart of Tacloban. The grandmother is played by Lita Divino.
Unlike the Songs for the Philippines album which costs US$9.99 and whose proceeds will go directly to Philippine Red Cross, this effort is purely for morale boosting ALTHOUGH “any and all proceeds will go the aid of those affected by Typhoon Haiyan (in Tacloban, Samar, Palawan and beyond).”

LYRICS: THE YOLANDA SONG

Nagdurugo ngaun ang puso ko
Sa trahedyang nangyari sa bayan ko
Oh kay bagsik, ang lupit ng hagupit
Mga pagsubok na tila walang patid.

Nagdurusa ngaun ang bayan ko
Tao’y hirap, di alam san patungo
Pinagnakawan ng mga pulitiko
Nilumpo ng giera, ng lindol pa at bagyo.

Bridge
Ngunit kahit
Gaano ito kapait

Dilubyong dumating
Dapat lang harapin

Ngunit kahit
Gaano ito kalupit
Dapat labanan

Chorus
Umahon ka kaybigan ko
Umahon ka’t hwag susuko
Hanggat ikaw may buhay pa
Tuloy tuloy ka! Umahon ka! Bumagon ka

Nanlulumo ako ngaun oh Diyos ko
Sa dinaranas ng mga kababayan ko
Bilyon bilyon na po ang donation
pero hanggang ngayon sila po ay gutom.

Umahon ka kaybigan ko
Umahon ka’t hwag susuko
Hanggat ikaw may buhay pa

Hanggat ikaw may buhay pa
Tuloy tuloy ka! Bumangon ka

Umahon ka kaybigan ko
Umahon ka’t hwag susuko
Hanggat ikaw may buhay pa
Tuloy tuloy ka! ……..

LYRICS: THE YOLANDA SONG

My heart is bleeding
Because of the tragedy that befell my nation
Oh how fierce, how painful the attacks
The trials that seem never ending

My nation is heavily laden
People are suffering, they don’t know where to turn to
Robbed by politicians
Crippled by war, earthquake, and storm

Bridge
Even though
How bitter
The deluge that came
We have to face it
Even though
How painful it is
We have to fight it

Chorus
Rise up my friend
Rise up and do not surrender
As long as you are alive
Continue fighting. Rise up

I am very sad My Lord
Because of what is happening to my countrymen
Billions of billions donated
Still they are hungry and suffering

Rise up my friend
Rise up and do not surrender
As long as you are alive
Continue fighting. Rise up

My heart is bleeding
Because of the tragedy that befell my nation
Hopefully there will be a tomorrow that awaits
For those who are like live corpses

Rise up my friend
Rise up and do not surrender
As long as you are alive
Continue fighting. Rise up

Rise up my friend
Rise up and do not surrender
As long as you are alive
Continue fighting…
