Mar Roxas says Tacloban mayor’s accusations are “pure lies”

Christmas be damned, this tiff is just going to escalate.

“Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas has belied allegations of Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez that politics delayed the aid given to his constituents affected by super typhoon Yolanda.

“In a press conference on Tuesday, Dec 10, at the Philippine National Police headquarters in Camp Crame, Roxas referred to Romualdez’s allegations as ‘pure lies’ and ‘outrageous,'” reports Dennis Carcamo on Philstar.com.

Roxas was reacting to Romualdez’s statements during a Senate hearing on Monday, Dec 9, wherein he was portrayed as a heartless individual.

Roxas pointed out that it was actually Romualdez who had been remiss in his duties as a mayor. According to the report, “Roxas criticized the local chief executive for not heeding the warning of the national government regarding evacuating coastal areas due to the storm surge.”

Hindi porke biktima ka, hindi ito lisensya para ibaluktot ang katotohanan (The fact that you’re a victim doesn’t give you the license to twist the truth). It’s not fair to the president, to this government and all other men and women who were sent there,” said Roxas.

Roxas also denied ever telling Romualdez the now-infamous line, “You are a Romualdez and the President is an Aquino.”
