Trash talk: How much do we spend to get rid of garbage?

“A Commission on Audit (COA) annual audit report covering the 17 local government units of Metro Manila indicated that the total garbage collection tab for 2012 has reached P4.1 billion, with Quezon City (QC) spending the most,” reports Ben Rosario in the Manila Bulletin.

Below is the list of how much each area spent for sanitation services in 2012:

1. Quezon City – PHP903.715 million

2. Manila – PHP512.546 million

3. Makati – PHP424.168 million

4. Caloocan – PHP421.933 million

5. Parañaque – PHP383.901 million

6. Pasay PHP380.808 million

7. Pasig – PHP294.723 million

8. Mandaluyong – PHP206.539 million

9. Muntinlupa – PHP204.96 million

10. Valenzuela – PHP109.82 million

11. Las Piñas City – PHP90.438 million

12. Malabon City – PHP79.972 million

13. San Juan – PHP75.32 million

14. Marikina City – PHP42.572 million

15. Navotas- PHP41.072 million

16. Pateros – PHP9.349 million

17. Taguig – did not provide the breakdown of expenses on the environment/sanitary services item under its Consolidated Statement of Income and Expenses
