Manila Zoo expecting new animals, higher entrance fees

As with anything that involves animals in cages, we’re not so sure if this is something to be happy about.

In any case, the Manila Zoo has increased its entrance fee for non-Manila residents from PHP40 to PHP100. For Manila residents, the ticket price went up from PHP20 to PHP60.

With these fee hikes, the zoo also revealed that it’s expecting new animals.

“A white-handed gibbon (Hylobates lar) and a pair of vervet monkeys (Chlorocebus pygerythrus) will soon add to the attractions at the city-run zoo. In a few days, these primates coming from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources will join the popular elephant Mali, a lion cub, a hippopotamus and two hebras (zebra-horse hybrids), among other residents in the 5.5-hectare park on Quirino Avenue,” reports Erika Sauler in the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

The report revealed that “the last time the Manila Zoo adjusted its entrance fees was about eight years ago, from PHP8 to PHP40.”

In any case, the zoo also added that they currently have 15 tigers that are up for trade, preferably with giraffes, rhinoceros and zebras.
