Terror total: More than 3,000 riding-in-tandem cases in 2013

It’s official. Riding-in-tandem crimes are “hot” in the criminal world.

“During a Philippine National Police (PNP) meeting held on Monday, Jan 26, it was revealed that cases involving criminals on motorcycles—dubbed ‘riding-in-tandem’—reached more than 3,000 in 2013,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

Police Chief Supt. Ricardo Marquez, deputy director of the PNP-Directorate for Operations, revealed that “if motorcycle-riding criminals in Metro Manila are involved mostly in robbery, they are involved in shootings in Region 1.”

Marquez then pointed out that “crimes involving suspects in motorcycles only make up a small percentage of crime in the metro.”

Marquez added that “the PNP is taking the strategies under consideration, and said sanctions must be imposed on police commanders who fail to curb crimes perpetrated by motorcycle-riding suspects.”

Somehow, we still don’t feel safe. That goes for legit motorcycle riders, too. We can’t blame them, for fearing that the crackdown may lead to some overzealous wrongful arrests.
