LRT-MRT smart card project goes to Ayala-Metro Pacific Group

The question, will the state-of-the-art ticketing system also come with trains that don’t break down every 30 seconds?

“On Thursday, Jan 30, the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) has awarded the Metro Rail Transit (MRT)-Light Rail Transit (LRT) smart card project to the Ayala-Metro Pacific Group,” reports ANC.

The report explained that the Automatic Fare Collection System (AFCS) “is a tap-and-go ticketing scheme for the LRT and MRT railway systems.”

The report also added that “under the terms of the project, the smart card, aside from the LRT and MRT, is also a payment system for retail and other establishments.”

But we’ll have to wait for this smart card system. It’s expected to be fully integrated at the LRT and MRT systems by September 2015.
