They say the wife is always the last to now, but Cristina Ponce Enrile, the wife of Senate Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile, has made it clear that she wasn’t clueless.
“In an episode aired in Monday night, Mar 3, Enrile’s wife told Winnie Monsod in the TV show Bawal ang Pasaway that she knew about her husband’s affair with his chief of staff, Atty. Gigi Reyes,” reports InterAksyon.com.
In fact, Enrile’s wife said that “Reyes was the reason she left for the United States before.” She explained, “I wanted to get a divorce. I had heard that she was already [with him] too long. He has had many girls before Gigi but they did not last too long. Many girls. With Gigi, it lasted long. Somebody told me that it’s not only this time, it’s more years that I don’t know. That’s what got me.”
However, she said Enrile would not let her get a divorce. She also said she and Reyes had had a confrontation at the Enrile residence in Makati City. “It was not nice,” she quipped.
In any case, Mrs. Enrile said she believes that the affair has been over for some time even though Reyes stayed on as chief of staff.
When it comes to the current pork barrel scam, Mrs. Enrile said she does not think her husband is involved in it. She says he has “more intelligence than that.”
