He did it to promote Surigao tourism….while he’s on vacation.
“Filipino lawyer Atty. Ingemar Macarine, president of the Surigao Runners Club, put his physical limits to the test when he swam a total of 2.85 kilometers from Alcatraz Island back to San Francisco,” reports ABS-CBN North America News Bureau correspondent Rommel Conclara.
The report said Macarine “is believed to be the first Filipino from the Philippines to achieve such a feat.”
Macarine was quoted as saying, “The current wasn’t really that strong compared to current in Surigao Channel, the one I swam last February. The current was very very strong.”
Macarine, who’s on vacation with some other members of the Surigao Runners Club, also plans to watch the Manny Pacquiao-Tim Bradley fight in Las Vegas later this week.
And, oh, the day before he made that swim, Macarine had joined the San Francisco Rock and Roll Half-Marathon.
