So, you call yourself a critic? Be a J. Elizalde Navarro fellow

It’s not easy being a critic — people will either love or hate you for it.

But if that’s the path you wish to take, we suggest you apply for a slot in this six-year-and-going national workshop on criticism, hosted by university publication The Varsitarian and named after the late National Artist J. Elizalde Navarro, who was an a critic-poet during his student days.

The 2014 UST J. Elizalde Navarro National Workshop in Criticism on the Arts and Humanities is from May 25-31 in Baguio City, and 12 fellows will be chosen. The grant covers the roundtrip fare from Manila to Baguio and the board and lodging for the duration of the workshop.

Applicants should submit a critical essay (15-25 pages, double-spaced, 12-point font) on any of the art forms (painting, sculpture, architecture, dance, drama, music, film, photography and literature).

Manuscript should be in MS Word format and must be submitted together with an updated résumé, a recommendation letter from an academic mentor or an art critic, a certification that the work is original, and a scanned ID photo. Send your manuscript and forward your inquiries to Gary Devilles at gary.devilles@gmail.com on or before April 15, 2014.
