Makati and LTFRB still fighting over free bus rides permit

At the end of the day, this service is for the public, so these government agencies should just chill.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and Makati are in a dispute over Makati’s move to offer free bus rides to MRT passengers from Trinoma to Ayala Avenue from 6am to 9pm.

LTFRB has said that Makati needs to apply for a special permit if it intends to offer this service for an extended period of time.

“The City of Makati in reply claimed it had the power to provide adequate transportation services under Local Government Code. It added it should not be required to obtain a certificate of public convenience as mandated by the Public Service Act,” reports Lailany P. Gomez in Manila Standard Today.

LTFRB insists that it still has jurisdiction over public land transportation services even if operated by goverment entities, adds the report.

We don’t know about you, but this is like watching a really bad tennis game.
