Pulitzer Prize-winning Pinoy journalist previews his documentary in San Fo

Remember Jose Antonio Vargas? He is the Filipino journalist who, in 2011, revealed to the world his undocumented status by writing about it in the New York Times. A year later, he appeared on the cover of Time magazine.

Remember his name, dear reader, because he has been doing our country proud. On April 19, his documentary film, Documented, “was screened at the Golden Gate University to an audience of nearly 200,” reports Inquirer.net. Written, produced, and directed by Vargas himself, the film recounts his experiences as an undocumented immigrant.

At age 12, he was sent to the US without proper papers. He learned about his status at age 16 but kept it a secret. He was able to continue with his education through the help of friends and teachers. He was able to get a scholarship for San Francisco State University and in the summers, interned for, among others The Washington Post.

Apart from the aforementioned accomplishments, Vargas was part of the Washington Post team that won the Pulitzer for Breaking News in the paper’s 2008 coverage of the Virgina Tech shooting.

Documented will be released in select theaters in New York and Los Angeles, with a television broadcast on CNN. Among its producers are Scott Budnick (The Hangover), Sean Parker (Napster founder) and Janet Yang (The joy Luck Club). Watch the trailer below:
