Dear mga manunuri, Mike de Leon doesn’t want your award, thank you very much.
The 67-year-old famously reclusive director, whose last film was Bayaning Third World released in 1999, was to be given a lifetime achievement award for filmmaking, the award-giving body announced yesterday.
But according to de Leon, “I just want to be left alone.”
Our source says de Leon sent the message through his old production designer, Cesar Hernando (Sister Stella L, Batch 81), brother of manunuri Mario Hernando.
“I’m no longer a director and I’m no longer public property,” the director explained.
Greta Garbo, isdatchu?
