Anne Curtis concert: What she lacked in talent, she made up for in costumes

The verdict is in on Anne Curtis’ solo concert last weekend: It was bad, but in a good way.

“The louder she squawked, the harder they applauded… and laughed,” reports Allan Policarpio in Philippine Daily Inquirer. “What she lacked in talent, she made up for in—her own words—bonggang costumes.”

Apart from what she was wearing, the audience was also impressed by the 29-year-old star’s Cirque du Soleil-inspired production while singing Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse” and Rihanna’s “Diamonds.”

She also sang “Nessun Dorma”—yes, you read right—in a duet with Robert Seña. “Let It Go” and “Wind Beneath My Wings” were also in the set list. She ended the concert with “One Moment In Time” but sang “Basang-Basa Sa Ulan” for her encore.

Anne told the audience to expect more flashy numbers to make up for her poor singing voice. “To be fair, Anne was in tune (at least she seemed to be) most of the time, and periodically lucked out into hitting high notes. It’s just that her timbre is naturally, and incredibly, shrill and strident,” according to the Inquirer review.

Strident? That’s too harsh—we know a million feminists who would murder anyone who calls them that.

So let’s just celebrate the fact that she’s self-deprecating—and that’s why we love Anne Curtis, warts and all.

Here, some photos from the concert posted to Instagram by Anne Curtis’ hair stylist Raymond Santiago.
