Filipino hair stylist gives haircuts to the needy

We’re getting tired of tagging every Filipino win and accolade with #PinoyPride but Mark Bustos, a Filipino hairstylist based in the Big Apple, sure is an exemption. According to Huffington Post, he spends his only free day at work, going around New York City, offering to cut the hair of at least six homeless people.

“Bustos has been cutting hair for the less fortunate since May 2012, when he traveled to the Philippines to visit family members. While abroad, he paid an owner of a barbershop to rent a chair and provide services to impoverished children in need of a fresh look,” writes Robbie Couch. He felt so great afterward that he brought the practice back with him to NYC, “noting he’s also given haircuts to the needy in Jamaica, Costa Rice, and Los Angeles.”

Accompanied by his girlfriend, Bustos goes around New York City every Sunday to do his good deed. He cuts hair in open street corners with heavy foot traffic so that people can see and hopefully, do a good deed on their own. For good measure, he documents this altruism on his Instagram account.

We wonder why we’ve never seen Mark on the popular blog Humans of New York.
