Caloocan cop tagged in EDSA kidnapping incident surrenders

He says he was told about the kidnapping scam but he didn’t participate in it.

“Senior Inspector Alan Emlano—a Caloocan policeman who had gone AWOL (absent without official leave) and was earlier tagged as among those who carried an abduction-extortion along EDSA— surrendered to Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Chief Supt. Richard Albano on Wednesday, September 10,” reports Dharel Placido on ABS-CBNnews.com.

The report noted: “Eastern Police District (EPD) director Chief Supt. Abelardo Villacorta earlier revealed that arrested suspect PO2 Jonathan Rodriguez claimed that Emlano was the one who commandeered the white Toyota Fortuner of the victims along EDSA last September 1.”

Villacorta had also indicated that “Emlano was positively identified by the two victims as one of the policemen who forced his way into their vehicle along EDSA and took their PHP2 million.”

Emlano denied participation in the brazen daylight robbery, saying he was in Malabon fixing his papers for his reinstatement on the day the abduction-robbery was carried out.

The report pointed out: “Emlano, however, admitted he was told about the September 1 operation, but he did not know about the abduction-robbery plot.”

Emlano will be turned over to the EPD, which is leading the probe into the sensational crime involving members of the Philippine National Police.
