QC court sets deadline for Ampatuans to find new lawyers

This case has dragged on long enough as it is.

“The Quezon City court handling the Maguindanao massacre trial has set September 17 as deadline for the 12 of the accused, including members of the Ampatuan clan, to find the replacement lawyers who will represent them in multiple murder case,” reports Chito A. Chavez in Manila Bulletin.

The report noted: “The two-page order of the judge covers seven members of the Ampatuan clan, including patriarch Andal Sr.; his sons Andal Jr., Sajid, and Anwar; his son-in-law Akmad; and grandsons Datu Ulo and Datu Ipi.”

Others who have yet to hire new lawyers are Moktar Daud, Taya Bangkulat, Salik Bangkulat, Not Abdul, and Nasser Esmail.

The report pointed out that on “August 7, three firms representing 25 suspects—Fortun Narvasa & Salazar, Manuel law office, and Real Brotarlo & Real simultaneously filed withdrawals of appearance in the cases.”

Out of the 25 accused, 13 have already decided to avail of the services of public attorney Laguindab Marohombsar.
