Carinderia Crawl E23: 33-peso lomi at Tikboy’s Carinderia

Tikboy’s Eatery near the PMI College on Roosevelt Avenue is confident that despite a newly opened mall in their area, it will still be doing business, thanks to their regular customers. Tikboy’s is a small carinderia that’s always packed with people because of its cheap food and generous serving. Its usual customers include students, cab drivers and even employees of the nearby mall.

After resigning from her work as a restaurant cook, owner Marites Besmonte decided to open this carinderia six years ago. She recalled that, just like any other businesses, there were struggles when the eatery was just starting. But now, she said that this venture has become a successful one.

Because of this eatery, Besmonte managed to buy three cars and she was able to send her kids to school. This eatery also helped her family in opening another business—a small gym located at the basement of the carinderia.

On this episode of Carinderia Crawl, television writer Arra Perez checks out Tikboy’s Eatery and orders a bowl of Lomi, the bestseller in this carinderia, a Filipino-Chinese dish with vegetables, meat and noodles as main ingredients.

According to the staff, their noodle meals are always in demand especially every afternoon. One of the reasons is probably because of their meals’ prices. For PHP25, you can already enjoy a big serving of their pancit dishes such as canton, bihon and lomi.

WHAT ARRA ATE: Lomi and soda for 33 pesos.

WHAT SHE THINKS OF THE LOMI: The saltiness of the Lomi is just right and it has so many ingredients. She likes that everything tastes fresh—especially the vegetables and the meat. However, she thinks there were not enough noodles in the soup. But she enjoyed her meal and plans to go back Tiknoy’s Eatery with her friends.

WORDS OF WISDOM: “If you have a busy schedule because of work, do not forget to spend time, even just a day, with your family and friends. Their support will always be there whether you are employed or not.”

Tikboy’s Eatery, 83 Roosevelt Avenue, Quezon City; +63 2 4152529. Daily 6am to 10pm.
