UST medical student, Sheraton Hotel employee die from electrocution in España

They died on Friday, Sep 19, when España Boulevard was also flooded due to the heavy downpour brought by Typhoon Mario.

“A medical student at the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) and a hotel employee died after being electrocuted along España Boulevard in Sampaloc, Manila on Friday,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

The first victim, 22-year-old UST medical student Siegfried Nathan Arcilla, was electrocuted amid the flood in the area around 2pm.

The second victim, 22-year-old Sheraton Hotel employee Glendon Benedicto, was electrocuted while passing through Maceda Street at the corner of España around 730pm.

First aid responders from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) tried to revive Benedicto and brought him to the United Doctors Medical Center (UDMC) Hospital, where he was declared dead.

The report noted: “Meralco spokesman Joe Zaldarriaga said electricity in the España area was supposed to be already cut off because of the floods.” He explained, “It’s supposed to be de-energized. We’ll have to look into that.”

The investigation on the case is ongoing.
