PNP Chief Alan Purisima stands his ground at Senate hearing

One of the first things Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Alan Purisima did when he attended the Senate hearing on Tuesday, Sep 30, was apologize to Sen. Grace Poe for his absence in the previous hearings tackling the PNP modernization program.

Poe is the chair of the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs.

Purisima just got back to the country on Sunday, after he attended an anti-kidnapping seminar in Colombia.

“At the Senate, Purisima forcefully defended himself from allegations of corruption and incompetence. Amid mounting calls for him to quit his post, Purisima said he will not leave his job,” reports Dharel Placido on ABS-CBNnews.com.

Purisima declared in Filipino, “I won’t turn my back on my sworn duty. I can’t let the wrong side win. I will continue to serve the country.”

The report also noted: “Purisima denied any irregularity in his acquiring of a house in Nueva Ecija (which critics say he undervalued in his Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth) and his ownership of a poultry business.”

Bottom line: He says he’s innocent and he is not resigning.
