8 paintings seized from Marcos home in San Juan

That was fast. That is, if you don’t include the decades spent trying to figure out what the government could take back.

“On Monday, September 29, the Sandiganbayan released an order authorizing the seizure of eight paintings by European artists from the family of the late President Ferdinand Marcos, as the paintings were found to have been ‘illegally acquired using public funds,'” reports ANC.

The authorities lost no time in going after the said works of art.

The report noted: “On Tuesday, September 30, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) dispatched several teams to recover valuable old master paintings under the possession of former First Lady Imelda Marcos and her family.”

According to the report, the following paintings were recovered at the Marcos home in San Juan:

1. Madonna and Child by Michelangelo Bounarroti

2. Femme Couchee VI (Reclining Woman VI) by Pablo Picasso

3. Portrait of the Marqueza de Sta. Cruz by Francisco de Goya

4. Still Life with Idol by Paul Gaugin

5. LaBaignade Au Grand Temps by Pierre Bonnard

6. Vase of Chrysanthemums by Bernard Buffet

7. Jardin de Kew pres de la Serre 1892 by Camille Pisarro

8. L’Aube by Joan Miro

Aside from the San Juan residence, operatives also searched the former First Lady’s office at the House of Representatives, their unit at Penthouse Plaza Condominium in Makati, their penthouse unit at One McKinley Place in Bonifacio Global City, and their home in Batac, Ilocos Norte.

There’s no word yet if more paintings were recovered from the other locations.
