Sonny Angara’s proposed basic bay for teachers: PHP33,859

Filipino teachers will at least smile over this.

“On Wednesday, october 1, Senator Edgardo Angara urged his colleagues to pass his proposed measure contained in Senate Bill (SB) 61, which aims to upgrade the salary grade level of teachers from Salary Grade (SG) 11 to SG 19, nearly doubling their current monthly base pay from PHP18,549 to PHP33,859,” reports Ernie Reyes on InterAksyon.com.

The report said that Angara also filed SB 200, “which seeks to extend teachers’ benefits, such as scholarship grants and free medical treatment under the Magna Carta for Public School Teachers or Republic Act 4670, to their dependents.”

The report added that “under the proposed measure, dependents are also entitled to a monthly pension in case the teacher suffers from a permanent partial or total disability.”

Dependents are described as a teacher’s child who is “not more than 21 years old or incapable of self-support because of physical defect regardless of age, who is not married nor gainfully employed, and is still living or dependent upon the teacher for support.”
