May she get justice.

“A member of the U.S. Marines is now in detention while members of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service is probing his alleged role in the death of a transgender named Jennifer Laude in Olongapo City,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

The Marine is assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. The infantry unit is currently in the country for a joint training exercise.

The report noted: “Navytimes.com reported the soldier is being detained on board the Peleliu, an amphibious assault ship currently docked in the city. Three of his colleagues are also detained for being potential witnesses.”

Laude, who was born Jeffrey Laude, was found dead inside the comfort room of Celzone Hotel in Barangay West Tapinac early Sun, Oct 12. Initial reports say she had been strangled to death.

The report said that “Laude checked in at the hotel with a foreigner, who appeared to be in his mid-20s.” The foreigner, later described as a soldier, was said to have left the room after about 30 minutes.

The reports have not named the American soldier.
