Food news: Long John Silver’s opening at SM City Manila

American seafood chain Long John Silver’s is opening its first Philippine store at SM City Manila on Nov 27.

The fastfood store is known abroad for its fish ‘n’ chips and tartar sauce, which will be available here along with the equally famous popcorn shrimp. As a treat to Filipino kids, it will offer spaghetti—the first Long John Silver’s in the world to do so. According to their publicist, the price range will compete with fastfood chains like McDonald’s and Jollibee. Diners will be able to buy a combo meal for as low as PHP100.

The 40-something year old restaurant is named after a character in the classic novel Treasure Island. The local franchise owner is Capital Wise Group, which has previously been distributing food and medicine. This is its first restaurant venture. Long John Silver’s at SM City Manila will occupy 200 square meters on the upper ground floor. Capital Wise plans to open more branches within the next six months, including at SM Aura Premier.
