4 U.S. witnesses in Jennifer Laude case no longer in PH

Stories like these often have tragic endings for those who are left behind.

“The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed that the four foreign witnesses — believed to be members of the U.S. Marines — to the events surrounding the killing of a Filipino transgender in Olongapo City have left the country,” reports Philippine News Agency on InterAksyon.com.

According to DFA spokesman Charles Jose, this was the information that they got from the U.S. Embassy in Manila.

“The DFA was not informed by the US side that four witnesses were leaving the country. They are not required to (inform us),” Jose explained.

However, Jose said that “the investigation will proceed despite their non-appearance on Tue, Oct 21, at the Prosecutor’s Office in Olongapo City” since “they have already satisfied the legal requirements.”
