At around 8:45am on Mon, Oct 27, six-year-old Homer Bugarin was killed, while tricycle driver Genesis Pitlawan, 23, was injured after they were hit by a tourist bus on Mauban corner Biak na Bato Sts. in Barangay Manresa, Quezon City.
“Initial reports that reached the Quezon City Police District-District Traffic Enforcement Unit (QCPD-DTEU), a stalled Kia tourist bus (TGI-709) driven by Alvino Morales, 42, was being towed by another tourist bus to their garage when the tow bar connecting them detached,” reports Francis T. Wakefield in Tempo.
The report noted: “The driver tried to stop the bus but failed after losing its brakes. He tried to avoid hitting people and maneuvered the steering wheel to the left and rammed into three tricycles on Mauban Street.”
Bugarin died on the spot while Pitlawan was taken to the East Avenue Medical Center on East Ave.
Initially, the tourist bus driver fled but he later surrendered to the QCPD Station 1 in La Loma. He was then turned over to traffic officials for investigation.
