ZTE kiosk at SM North EDSA surrounded by angry shoppers, cops intervene

On Tue night, Oct 28, members of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) were called to deal with angry shoppers who seemed like they wanted to attack the ZTE kiosk in SM City North EDSA.

You see, the ZTE kiosk was offering the the Grand X2 L smartphone at PHP1,999 as part of the bargain deal. Normally, the phone has a suggested retail price of PHP11,999.

With that kind of price, it was but natural for bargain-hunters to flock to the kiosk.

The problem started when the ZTE kiosk ran out of their “super sale” smartphones hours before the scheduled end of the so-called “limited offer.”

The people refused to leave after store managers announced that the particular branch ran out of units up for sale.

“Several online websites reported the sale but the annoucements had no mention that each participating ZTE outlet only had 100 units of the brand’s Grand X2 L smartphone for the ‘super sale’ promo,” reports Zhander Cayabyab on ABS-CBNnews.com.

The announcements only said that the promo will only last from 2pm to 6pm.

However, after the promo units ran out, there were still “around 200 people surrounded the ZTE kiosk, with many voicing out their frustrations at the company.”

The report noted: “The kiosk was barricaded with steel bars. Store managers were seen offering freebies to try and calm down the crowd.”

ZTE had listed a total of seven participating outlets for the sale, namely: SM City Fairview, SM North EDSA, SM Southmall, SM Sta. Mesa, Tutuban Mall, Luckygold Plaza-Pasig, and GMall-Davao.

The report revealed that “a similar gathering of angry shoppers surrounded a ZTE kiosk located at SM City Sta. Mesa.”
