DOH Secretary not sacked, just on leave due to ‘hair dye allergy’

He was not fired. He’s just suffering from allergic reactions to hair dye.

“Amid speculations Dr. Enrique Ona would be replaced as chief of the Department of Health (DOH), Palace spokesman Edwin Lacierda said that Ona is just on leave,” reports Frances Mangosing on Inquirer.net.

Lacierda explained, “Here are people who are asking if he has resigned. No, he’s just on leave.”

While Ona is on leave, Health Undersecretary Janette Garin has been appointed as officer-in-charge.

In fact, it was Garin who later revealed in a press conference the “more detailed” reason of Ona’s absence.

“Garin said that Ona had to go on sick leave because prescription medication has been ineffective in controlling his severe reaction to the hair dye, which manifested in his feet, back and chest,” report Christian V. Esguerra, Tina G. Santos in Philippine Daily Inquirer.
