Abaya to LTFRB: Work with Uber

Ideally, more things get done when people join forces. However, if the one you’re joining forces with is a government agency, then it could be a whole other story.

Nevertheless, Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Secretary Jun Abaya seems to be optimistic that having the the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to work together with car service provider Uber would lead to awesome results.

In case you didn’t know, the DOTC is the mother agency of the LTFRB. And, as they always say, Mama knows best.

Earlier, the LTFRB had eagerly declared that it would shut down Uber. Now, it’s been forced to take back its macho words.

“In a statement issued yesterday, Abaya said transportation regulations should facilitate convenient, safe, and reliable services to the public, not hamper them,” reports Reinir Padua in The Philippine Star.

Abaya  said, “I have asked the LTFRB to reach out to Uber and seek ways to modernize our transportation rules. While the LTFRB was only doing its job in implementing the law, we also have a duty to push for modern solutions to archaic problems.”
