Off-duty highway cop in QC car crash suspected of drunk driving

Shouldn’t he have known better?

“PO3 Orlando Belen of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Highway Patrol Group was not on duty and driving his car when he hit a dump truck and a concrete barrier along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City on Wednesday night, November 12,” reports Kori Quintos on ABS-CBNnews.com.

The report noted: “Belen is believed to have been drunk driving. However, his wife, PO3 Jo Belen, who rushed to the scene, said he only had a few drinks with his friends.”

Nobody was hurt in the mishap, but the front of the Belens’ car was wrecked.

What complicated matters was that the authorities also found guns inside their car. However, Mrs. Belen claimed her husband had the license to carry the guns.

The report said that “Mr. Belen is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property.” Moreover, if it is confirmed that he was driving while intoxicated, he will face charges of drunk driving as well.

The report didn’t say what Mr. Belen’s reason was for the mishap.
