Dominique Ansel started it with the cronut, his croissant-doughnut hybrid. Since then, many crazy cooks have followed suit and cranked out their own food mash-ups.
We weren’t spared this year, with the likes of pizza cake (stacked-up pizza pies), waffogato (waffle and affogato), waffle taco and ramen doughnuts making headlines.
The latest addition to the growing list is the phoritto by Komodo Café in Los Angeles where thinly sliced rib eye steak, bean sprouts, cilantro, onions, Thai basil, jalapeño, and phở noodles are stuffed in a flour tortilla. The aforementioned trends have yet to reach Manila shores.
Until then, we have these to take delight in.
