On First Bite, Coconuts Manila‘s food editor, Angelo Comsti, previews Metro Manila’s newest hip and trendy restaurants. He dissects the ingredients, flavors and cooking techniques that make each food unique. On this first episode we go to Locavore, a new restaurant in Barrio Kapitolyo that serves Pinoy cuisine with a trendy twist.

Brixton Street was once a quiet lane with only the ruckus of cars and tricycles disturbing the peace. Well, that hasn’t been the case since Locavore restaurant in October.

It has been attracting a lot of people as of late, luring in not just those who appreciate really good food, but also folks who want to get away from the crowd, traffic and so-so food in East Capitol Drive and Capitol Commons.

The dishes are unique but familiar, and the restaurant, casual and cozy even in the thick of action. It’s pretty bare in design with nothing particularly memorable in the space.

But what it does manage to leave an imprint of is its rich and totally pleasurable food, which is more than enough to make people choose it over any good looking restaurant anytime.

In a year that saw many restaurants open, Locavore is easily among the few standouts.

Locavore, 10 Brixton St, Barrio Kapitolyo, Pasig; +63 2 6329600. Daily 5pm-1am.
