Sorry, but you won’t be seeing any Pinay biritera sing the Philippine National Anthem at the Manny Pacquiao – Chris Algieri fight this Sunday, Nov. 22, in Macau.

In the past, female singers like Jessica Sanchez, Charice, Kyla, Lani Misalucha, Sarah Geronimo, and Regine Velasquez have performed the Lupang Hinirang before Manny fights, but we won’t get any of those this time. Instead, a Christian choir composed of different pastors but all hailing from General Santos City, will be singing the national anthem.

Pastor Jess Bacuna said that they were just practicing when Manny visited them and that they joked about singing for the fight, so they were surprised when they were actually chosen to sing the national anthem. He also added that they feel excited, not nervous.

Can’t wait to see their performance!

Anyway, speaking of Lupang Hinirang, we still find ourselves listening to Joey Ayala’s version from last year’s TedxDiliman Talks. Have you heard it yet?
