As long as the earthquakes aren’t political in nature, the city won’t get shaken up.

“If a major earthquake were to strike today, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said that the most prepared place in Metro Manila to deal with it would be the financial district of Makati City,” reports InterAksyon.com.

The information was revealed by PHIVOLCS Director Renato Solidum Jr. in his speech at the  10th Asian Seismological Commission (ASC) General Assembly at the Dusit Thani Manila.

Solidum commended the city for “being the first to adopt earthquake resiliency measures in its structures and establishments.”

Makati has also completed its Contingency Plan for Earthquakes and Pre-Disaster Recovery Plan, which addresses identified needs in case an earthquake strikes Metro Manila.

The report noted: “The plans include an identification of the open spaces in the city that would serve as evacuation areas in case of an earthquake. They also cover the construction of multihazard evacuation centers that are up to five stories high.”
