How many smokers were in the building that day? (By the way, before you jump to conclusions, the men in the photo are just two of the workers rescued from the building.)

“Construction firm Megawide revealed that the fire that struck the One World Place building in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig on Thursday morning, November 27, is believed to have been caused by a carelessly disposed cigarette butt,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

In a statement released hours after the fire was put out, Megawide explained that “the carelessly disposed cigarette butt may have ignited paint materials stored in the basement of the building.”

The report noted: “The blaze reportedly started at around 9:40 a.m. at Basement 3 of the One World Place DEISI Company building, which is still under construction.”

The fire reached the third alarm before it was declared out at around 1:10pm.

Megawide said all the workers in the building are safe and have been accounted for.
