In Minneapolis, world’s first vegan butcher shop to open

It won’t be long before you and your kids can forego your burger and hotdog cravings, and reach for something healthier. Herbivorous Butcher founders and siblings Aubry and Kale Walch from Minneapolis, USA started selling their meatless meats at the farmers market just last June.

Their items such as pepperoni, barbecue ribs, Italian sausages, holiday ham, and turkey made with beans or tofu have already amassed a huge following and overwhelming support, from even among carnivores too, that plans are now on the way for a full-scale vegan butcher shop. Imagine: gourmet meat alternatives, cheeses, sauces, rubs and breads to go with their healthy hotdogs and hamburgers. The project is still in its early stages, with its Kickstarter project still three days away from deadline, so we can only hope and dream about it for now.

In the meantime, how about we enjoy these vegan burgers available in Metro Manila?

1. Baked Tofu Walnut Burger from Corner Tree Café (PHP315)
A patty that’s packed with flavor becomes a canvass to many typical burger add-ons like fried onions, organic fried egg and gruyere cheese.

2. Stuffed Portobello Cheeseburger from Pipino Vegetarian (PHP275)
It might taste earthier than your usual burger but this definitely bites like your meaty sub. Served with sweet potato fries, it lets you realize that life as an occasional vegan isn’t that bad after all.
