After four months of hunting him down, police finally caught the man who raped and killed a baby girl in San Juan City, Metro Manila.

“Arnel Tumbali — the suspect in the rape and murder of an 11-month-old girl whose body was found under a jeepney in San Juan City last August — was arrested last Friday, December 5, while he was having lunch at a Mandaluyong City eatery,” reports Jovic Yee in Philippine Daily Inquirer.

The report noted: “The police found Arnel Tumbali after the informant, an ambulant vendor who used to work with him, recognized the suspect as he ate in the carinderia at the corner of Edsa and Sultan Street in Barangay Highway Hills.”

The report revealed that “Tumbali’s appearance had changed after the crime—he lost weight, grew a moustache and looked like a scavenger.” However, as the report said, the tipster was still able to recognize Tumbali “owing to their three years as street buddies selling balut and peanuts.”

Tumbali was caught taking the baby girl while her parents, who were homeless, slept on the street in San Juan. Tumbali was seen kissing the baby. He was later seen carrying the child to another part of the neighborhood. The child’s body was later found there, placed under a parked jeepney. Police confirmed that the child had beeen raped.
