Artists, you still have four days to audition for the first-ever Slideluck potluck gathering to be held in Manila in January. Started in 2000 by photographer Casey Kelbaugh in his backyard in Seattle with 50 guests participating, Slideluck is a non-profit gathering of artists, both new and established, and the public.

It has since been replicated all over the globe, from Amsterdam to Warsaw. For each event, artists submit up to five minutes worth of images and guests bring along delicious food to share. Slideluck has provided artists with a platform for showcasing their work and promotes appreciation of art among diverse audiences. It’s like the TED Talks of the art world.

It’s casual, it’s fun, and it will make you feel happy to be alive. Coconuts Manila talks to one of Slideluck Manila’s director, Gennevive Ramos.

Who initiated this Philippine edition?
Slideluck Manila is organized by a group of three friends who enjoy food and art. When Tiffany read about it and started to help out with the Singapore show, it was natural for the three of us to get together to start a Manila branch. She was part of the organizing committee in Singapore.

Do you have plans of staging Slideluck in other parts of the country?
We are hoping to showcase a wider variety of art in the next shows. Also, as we grow, we are looking to strengthen the food aspect. In New York, they threw a show with local food trucks.

What kind of artists are you looking for?
Slideluck initially started with photography slideshows but has since included art from all kinds of mediums. We’re open to artists from all walks of life and would be happy to accept paintings, drawings, even installations and sculptures as long as they’re in the slideshow format.  We are also very open to video entries of up to five minutes in length.

What kind of food are you looking for?
We are open to anything! We suggest home-cooked meals as recipe exchange is a great conversation starter.

Slideluck Manila is happening on Jan 3, 2015 at Uno Morato (GYY Bldg, 1 Tomas Morato Ave, QC); www.facebook.com/slideluckmanila. Artists, submit your proposals on http://slideluck.com/new-submissions. Deadline: Dec 15, 2014.
