Let them eat cake, indeed.

“The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Thursday filed a tax complaint before the Department of Justice against the birthday cake supplier and catering food service provider of the Ospital ng Makati and Makati City Hall,” reports Ina Reformina on ABS-CBNnews.com.

The report noted: “The BIR said Kim Tun Chong of Cups and Mugs Kitchenette has underdeclared income tax and evaded the payment of taxes for taxable years 2009 to 2011. The tax deficiency was assessed at PHP46.6 million.”

Aside from supplying birthday cakes distributed by Makati City Hall for senior citizens, Cups and Mugs Kitchenette also has a contract to manage the cafeteria at Makati City Hall and Ospital ng Makati.

It may be recalled that former Makati City Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado had earlier accused the incorporators of Cups and Mugs Kitchenette for serving as dummies of the Binay family.
