The building is supposed to be for high-profile inmates.

“In the wake of the raid conducted earlier this week, Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Leila de Lima is asking the Department of Budget and Management for PHP30 million to complete the renovation of Building 14 New Bilibid Prison’s Maximum Security Compound,” reports Camille Diola on Philstar.com.

The building is where high-profile inmates will be “isolated” from the rest of the inmates.

De Lima was quoted as saying, “I called up [Budget] Secretary [Florencio] Abad to follow up the funds for the renovation of Building 14 where drug inmates will be placed so they can be guarded closely.”

De Lima went on to explain thet “the building is currently vacant as the renovation has been stopped earlier this year due to shortage in funds.”

The report noted: “Once completed, the structure can accommodate 50 to 100 inmates, including the 19 drug lords plucked out from the correctional facility.”

The 19 drug lords, who were found to have occupied luxury living quarters in the Bilibid compound, are currently detained at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) facility.
