Liberal Party to back potential Mar Roxas-Grace Poe tandem for 2016

Would both members of this potential combo have a shot at winning? Or would just one of them make it through?

“Liberal Party Secretary General and Western Samar Rep. Mel Senen Sarmiento said ‘a good majority’ of the group’s members are pushing for Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas’ team up with Senator Grace Poe in the 2016 polls,” reports Charissa Luci in Manila Bulletin.

The report noted that “the LP’s National Executive Council (NECo) is targeting to meet early next year to formally discuss the possible presidential team up.”

In a radio interview, Sarmiento said in Filipino, “Even without the NECo’s meeting, we already noticed that party members are backing the tandem. It hasn’t been formally discussed, but they’ve expressed their support for it. I would say a good majority of the party have that sentiment.”

Sarmiento pointed out that “the Roxas-Poe team in 2016 is really worth considering as they can complement each other in terms of their strengths and weaknesses.”

Sarmiento added that they “will start wooing Poe to join the administration banner as its vice presidential bet only after the first meeting of NECo is convened where all LP members will be consulted, anticipating that other political parties would also do the same in courting Poe.”
