We’ll say it again: If Christmas has this effect on everyone, then we wish it would be Christmas everyday.
Just days fter the Communist Party of the Philippines (CCP) announced a ceasefire for Christmas, New Year, and the visit of Pope Francis, its armed unit has released two soldiers whom they had captured.
“New People’s Army rebels released two captive soldiers — Cpl. Benjamin Samano and Pfc. Alvin Ricarte of the Army’s 60th Infantry Battalion — to Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday afternoon,” reports GMA News Online, citing information from Davao Today.
The release of the two soldiers reportedly “took place in the hinterlands of Montevista town in the Compostela Valley.”
The report noted: “Duterte arrived had arrived in the area aboard a helicopter, and the two soldiers were brought to the headquarters of the Eastern Mindanao Command in Davao City.”
Samano and Ricarte were taken by the NPA last Dec 2 at the compound of the Sumitomo Fruits Corp. in New Corella town in Davao del Norte. Relatives of the soldiers had appealed to the NPA and the government for the release.
To be fair, Duterte revealed that Samano and Ricarte “were treated well and that the NPA had adhered to the rules of the Geneva Convention.”
Meanwwhile, Davao Today also reported that the National Democratic Front (NDF) would soon release even more captives.
